Lisbon Highlights
& Hidden Gems
Lisbon the Way It Should Be Seen — Privately, at Your Own Pace
Lisbon rewards those who go slowly — through its hilltop castle, Moorish lanes, and the grandeur of Belém. This private full-day tour shows you all of it, guided by someone who knows the city as a living place, not a checklist.
Your guide picks you up at your hotel between 08:00 and 09:30. The morning takes you through São Jorge Castle and the Alfama neighbourhood; the afternoon belongs to Belém — Jerónimos Monastery, Torre de Belém, and fresh pastéis de nata from the original bakery. The day ends at a hidden miradouro, with your private return to the hotel as the sun goes down.
Six Experiences That Define This Tour
São Jorge Castle & the Panorama of Lisbon
Perched on Lisbon's highest hill, this Moorish fortress offers the most expansive view in the city — terracotta rooftops cascading down to the wide, silver Tagus. Your guide brings the medieval history to life.
Alfama — Lisbon's Living Medieval Soul
The oldest continuously inhabited neighbourhood in Lisbon, where narrow lanes twist between ancient whitewashed buildings draped in azulejo tiles. This is where Fado was born and where Lisbon's heart still beats loudest.
Jerónimos Monastery — UNESCO Masterpiece
Built to celebrate Vasco da Gama's voyage to India, this is arguably the finest example of Manueline Gothic architecture in existence. The cloisters are breathtaking. Entry is included in your tour.
Torre de Belém — Portugal's Iconic Landmark
Rising from the Tagus as if it grew from the river itself, the Tower of Belém is one of Portugal's most photographed monuments. See it from the riverside and let your guide explain what it meant to those setting sail for unknown worlds.
Original Pastéis de Belém Since 1837
The recipe has never left the original bakery. A warm custard tart with a perfectly caramelised top, dusted with cinnamon — tasted in the same tiled rooms where it has been served for nearly two centuries.
Hidden Miradouros — The Viewpoints Locals Love
Beyond the well-known lookouts, Lisbon hides a handful of secret viewpoints that appear on no tour itinerary. Your guide knows where to go — and the views are extraordinary, especially at golden hour.
All six highlights are included in the standard itinerary. Already visited Jerónimos Monastery or São Jorge Castle? Prefer to spend more time in Alfama? Want to add the National Tile Museum or the LX Factory? Just tell us — the day is yours to shape, at no extra charge.
Full-Day Itinerary
Your tour starts with a private pickup between 08:00 and 09:00 — agreed in advance with your guide. The order below is chosen deliberately: São Jorge Castle and Alfama are best experienced in the morning before the crowds arrive; Belém is far more enjoyable in the afternoon when the main queues subside. All timings are approximate guides, not fixed schedules. This is your private tour — every stop, pace, and route can be adjusted at any moment to suit your interests and energy.
Every aspect of this tour can be adjusted before departure — skip stops you've already seen, spend more time in Alfama or Belém, add the Museu Nacional do Azulejo, Chiado, or the LX Factory, or simply let your guide follow your lead on the day. There is no extra charge for personalising the itinerary. Just tell us what matters to your group when you get in touch.
Private Pickup from Your Hotel
Your guide meets you at your hotel lobby in a comfortable, air-conditioned private vehicle. Brief introductions, a quick overview of the day, and you're on your way. No rushing, no queuing — just a relaxed departure at your own pace.
São Jorge Castle & Alfama District
The panoramic view from the castle grounds — the entire city at your feet, the Tagus glittering in the distance. The route then descends into Alfama: cobblestone alleys, tiled facades, and the sound of Fado drifting from open doorways. Your guide shows you corners most visitors miss, including the Miradouro da Graça — perhaps the most beautiful viewpoint in the city.
Mouraria, Baixa & Praça do Comércio
Through Mouraria — Lisbon's multicultural quarter with remarkable street art and fragrant spice shops — then into the Baixa, the elegant Pombaline grid rebuilt from the rubble of the 1755 earthquake. The morning ends at the magnificent Praça do Comércio, where the city meets the Tagus in a sweep of yellow arches and the iconic triumphal arch.
Lunch at Leisure — or Upgrade with Our Add-On
Time to eat, rest, and soak in the atmosphere. Your guide will recommend the best nearby restaurants for every budget and taste — from simple bifanas at a local counter to a full-course petiscos lunch at a traditional tasca. If you'd like a reserved table at a handpicked restaurant with wine pairing included, simply add the Premium Lunch option when you book.
Belém District — UNESCO World Heritage
Belém was the launchpad for Portugal's Age of Discovery. Your guide takes you through the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery — entry included — whose Manueline cloisters rank among the most beautiful spaces in Europe. Nearby: the Monument to the Discoveries, and rising from the waterfront, the Torre de Belém — the most emblematic symbol of Portugal's maritime golden age.
Pastéis de Belém — The Original Since 1837
Made to the same secret recipe since 1837, baked fresh every few minutes, served warm with cinnamon and powdered sugar. Your tasting is included. One of those small moments that somehow becomes one of the strongest memories of the trip.
Hidden Lisbon — A Secret Viewpoint at Golden Hour
Chosen by your guide based on the light, the time of year, and where you haven't been yet — the Miradouro de Santa Catarina, the LX Factory on a Sunday market day, or a quiet square in Príncipe Real. This is where the tour breathes and Lisbon reveals itself most honestly.
Return to Your Hotel
Your private vehicle drops you back at your hotel or any central Lisbon location of your choice. If you've added the Evening Fado Experience, your guide will accompany you directly to the Alfama venue instead — the evening begins seamlessly.

These extras can be added when you get in touch to book. Each one is fully arranged by us — simply mention which you'd like and we'll take care of everything.
Premium Portuguese Lunch
A reserved table at one of our handpicked traditional restaurants in central Lisbon — a proper adega or tasca with white tablecloths. Choose from fresh fish (including the iconic bacalhau à Brás or grilled sea bass), a meat option (slow-braised lamb or veal), or a vegetarian menu — all seasonal, all local. Famous Lisbon dishes such as amêijoas à Bulhão Pato and caldo verde may also feature. Your guide joins you at the table. Coffee and dessert of the day are included.
Includes starter, main course, dessert, coffee, and a carafe of house wine or soft drinks.
Tram 28 — Historic Guided Ride
Board Lisbon's iconic yellow electric tram at Martim Moniz and ride through the oldest and most characterful neighbourhoods in the city — Alfama, Graça, and Mouraria — with your guide's commentary. A slow, atmospheric journey that has barely changed in over a century: crumbling facades, laundry lines above the tracks, steep cobblestoned streets. A perfect complement to the morning Alfama walk.
Includes historic tram tickets for your group. Best taken during the Alfama portion of the tour.
Evening Live Fado Experience
Extend your day into a Lisbon evening with an intimate live Fado performance in Alfama — Portugal's most soulful musical tradition, performed in a small venue of perhaps thirty people. Your guide accompanies you, introduces the performers, and explains the stories behind the songs. Fado is not background music here: it is the entire room, falling silent together. An unforgettable way to close the day in the city where it was born.
Includes venue entry, a light dinner, and a glass of Portuguese wine.
Monument to the Discoveries — Panoramic Top
Standing 52 metres above the Tagus waterfront in Belém, the Monument to the Discoveries commemorates the great Portuguese explorers of the Age of Discovery. Take the elevator to the panoramic viewing platform at the summit for a sweeping 360° view across the river estuary, the Jerónimos Monastery, and Lisbon stretching east toward the centre. A brief but remarkable vantage point that puts the whole geography of the city — and Portugal's maritime history — into stunning perspective.
Includes elevator ticket to the top. Approximately 30–45 minutes. Naturally combined with the Belém afternoon stop.
